2026 ssnit engages aburi okada rider The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) on 15th January, 2026 engaged motorcycle riders (okada riders) within the Akuapim South Municipality at the Municipal Assembly Hall, Aburi, to sensitize them on the Voluntary Pension Scheme and the importance of social security planning.

In an address to the riders, a SSNIT Benefits Officer Mr Felix Osafo, encouraged participants to cultivate a culture of savings towards retirement and long-term financial security. He explained that riders between the ages of 15 and 45 are eligible to enrol on the scheme, with a minimum monthly contribution of GH¢100.00.

He further noted that contributions under the scheme are indexed to inflation, ensuring that benefits increase in line with economic conditions. The officer advised riders to prioritize their future over short-term pleasures, emphasizing the occupational hazards associated with motorcycle riding.

In addition, he also outlined key benefit conditions, including disability claims, noting that contributors with certified medical reports from recognized health facilities would be eligible to access benefits to help manage life’s uncertainties with confidence.

Also, upon attaining the statutory retirement age of 60, contributors would receive pension benefits paid monthly to replace part of their lost income after active service, he said. Participants were also advised to register their families as next of kin to ensure the smooth transfer of benefits in the event of death.

Issues relating to Tier One pension benefits were also clarified. The interactive session allowed riders to raise questions and share concerns, all of which were duly addressed by the relevant stakeholders.

In a brief address, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon Paul Osae Offei, encouraged the riders to enroll on the SSNIT scheme and pledged to sponsor their initial registration fees. Underscoring the importance of saving toward a secure future, particularly in preparation for retirement, Hon. urged participants to strictly adhere to the rules and regulations governing SSNIT.

The MCE further noted that their enrollment would serve as a catalyst, encouraging motorcycle riders in surrounding communities to also participate in the scheme.

The Municipal Cooperative Director, Madam Dorcas Kwakye, also addressed the gathering and emphasized the need for the riders to form a cooperative. She explained that a cooperative structure would facilitate the swift and consistent payment of monthly SSNIT contributions. She added that without an organized cooperative, riders would not be bound by by-laws that could enable them to benefit from government interventions and other support programs.

She therefore called on the executives of the Okada Association to encourage their members to formally join the association, contribute their shared capital, and pay monthly dues in order to fully enjoy the benefits of cooperative membership.

The engagement successfully highlighted the benefits of the Voluntary Pension Scheme, clarified eligibility and contribution requirements, improve social and economic security for motorcycle riders within the municipality.
